THE STORY:
One day he had a strange daydream. He dreamt that a white owl appeared to him, which spoke to him and told him to leave the eyrie.
When he opened his eyes, this white owl was sitting on the branch right next to him. In astonishment he looked at her.
"Yes," said the owl, "that was no daydream. I have spoken to you and told you that you can fly. Just have to want to do it!"
"But how do I know that my wings will carry me?"
"Can't you see that your sister and your parents are flying too? Why shouldn't you? You won't know until you try!"
"Maybe so," replied the eagle uncertainly, "but maybe my wings are still too weak!"
"I want to show you something," replied the owl mysteriously, "follow me. "We will choose a very strong branch in to the treetop, from which you can see far into the distance. From there you will see how beautiful the world is. If you still don't want to fly, then it's your choice!"
They climbed from branch to branch until they reached the top.
"You're doing well! You will see the kingdom of eagles in all its beauty!"
Bravely, the young eagle climbed the side branch at the top of the old beech tree and his heart missed a beat! That was fantastic! This sea and the endless expanse! Somewhere out there his parents and his sister would circle!
Almost impossibly slow, the eagle advanced to the end of the branch.
The owl was waiting for this moment. Unnoticed, it had followed and with one leap it too jumped on to the branch. With a loud crash, the rotten branch gave way and plunged into the deep!
"You said the branch would hold us," cried the eagle.
"Wrong," croaked the owl, "I said it would hold you - but not the two of us! And now fly nicely! Have a good trip!"
The young eagle plunged into the bottomless depths. The owl followed him in elegant glide. Instinctively, the young eagle had spread his wings. The updraft suddenly lifted him up and carried him towards the sun. An unprecedented feeling of happiness overcame him. Suddenly he heard a hissing sound above him. From the corner of his eye a shadow shot towards him:
"My son, you are flying, for god's sake," cried his father.
Proudly, the young eagle threw his head back into his neck. "Yes, I am flying!"
